When one person does both the makeup and the hair, the order of the wedding morning is not a matter of chance. I start with the hair, and the reason lies in the products that hold it.

Why it is better to do hair first and makeup after

A wedding hairstyle is built with hairspray, wax and other products that give it grip and set it. Hairspray is sprayed all around the head, and some of it never stays in the hair: it ends up on the forehead, the temples and the face.

If the face were already made up, those products would settle on the base and spoil a finish built layer by layer. With the hair finished, the makeup is done on skin free of all that, and it stays exactly as it was worked until the ceremony.

When two different professionals do the hair and the makeup

Sometimes the work is shared, and the other professional prefers the opposite order. The order that suits both is then agreed before the wedding, so the morning keeps its rhythm without you having to think about it.

The order in which everyone getting ready takes their turn is a separate question, with reasons of its own: why the bride usually sits down last.
