With the wedding date close, many brides feel they have to do something to their hair: a treatment, a change of colour, something to make it different. What the hair needs in those weeks is exactly the opposite.
When to start a hair care routine before the wedding
The hair can be looked after at any time of year, but the more intensive care, if you want to arrive at your wedding with your hair at its best, is worth starting about six months before. From then on I recommend using less direct heat, straighteners and hairdryers, which are what punish the hair most day to day.
Why chemical hair treatments are best avoided before the wedding
Straightening, harsh highlights or any other chemical process just before the wedding is one of the worst things that can be done. These treatments change the hair, and if the result is not what was expected or the hair suffers, there is no time left to put it right. Besides, the hairstyle was decided at the trial on the hair you had then, and different hair may not behave in the same way.
A light trim and gentle hydration
What is worth doing is a very small trim before the wedding and some hydration, so the hair looks as lovely as possible. All very gentle and aimed only at caring for it, not changing it. That way, on the wedding morning I work with healthy, familiar hair, the same hair that was styled at the trial.
