On the wedding morning, the mother of the bride and the godmother, who walks the groom to the altar at a Spanish wedding, are often as nervous as the bride, or more. They have a very special role that day, and their preparation does too.
Why the mother and the godmother get ready before the bride
In order of priority they come very close to the bride. Since the bride usually goes last, the mother and the godmother get ready before her. If the bride is not comfortable going last, the order adapts to what she wants, and the mother's and the godmother's turns change with it.
More careful skin preparation before makeup
Their skin is usually mature skin, and so it receives somewhat more careful preparation than the other guests'.
Why the mother and the godmother are helped to relax
Many of them live the morning with more nerves than the bride herself. While getting them ready, I try to help them relax, enjoy the moment and, for a while, feel they are the centre of attention too. The aim is for them to leave looking beautiful and calm, ready to accompany the bride.
